MESSAGE
Message by Mr. T. V. Narendran
“The contribution of the Indian Steel Industry has helped us take significant strides towards our vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Government of India’s focus on infrastructure spending, programs like production linked incentive scheme and Gatishakti are helping the industry and its stakeholders realise the Vision of 300 Million Tons steel production capacity by the end of the decade.
We are fully cognizant of the need to promote circular economy and decarbonisation, and I am pleased to note that the theme of this year’s Conclave reflects this.
I welcome all delegates and look forward to fruitful deliberations on innovative ideas and create a road map for a more sustainable future.
My best wishes to the Indian Steel Association for the success of ISA Steel Conclave 2023.
Message by Mr. Naveen Jindal
“It's my pleasure to warmly welcome you to the 4th edition of the ISA steel conclave 2023.
This year's theme, "Steel shaping the sustainable future", is relevant as steel has been the backbone of industrial progress for centuries and is playing a pivotal role today in building a more sustainable world.
Our commitment to sustainability is unwavering. We, at JSP, have already invested in sustainable and innovative cutting edge technologies, like our CGP based DRI plant at Angul, Odisha, to reduce emissions and optimize resource usage.
This conclave is a testament to Indian Steel Industry’s commitment to progress and sustainable practices. I look forward to inspiring discussions and progressive ideation that will create a roadmap for a more sustainable future.
OVERVIEW
The fourth edition of Indian Steel Association’s flagship event – “ISA – Steel Conclave” will once again cover pertinent issues and deliberate on the Indian and global perspectives of the steel industry. Along with the two days of excellent knowledge sharing sessions, the event this year will also cover a mini expo to provide a platform for the latest product and service showcase related to the sector.
ISA Steel Conclave 2023 will feature discussions between the Senior Industry Leaders, Government and Consultants on accelerating decarbonization of steel. It is crucial in the transition to a low-carbon future. It would help to raise awareness of the need for action, and would bring together the key stakeholders who need to work together to make decarbonization a reality
INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
World's 2nd largest producer of crude steel (124 MT) in calendar year 2022.
Largest producer of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) or Sponge Iron(42 MT) in the world.
2nd largest consumer of finished steel in 2022 [115 MT] in the world preceded by China 920 MT MT)
The steel sector contributes around 2% of the country's GDP and employs around 25 lakhs persons in steel/allied sectors.
4th largest Iron ore producer in the world.
The National Steel Policy - 2017 envisages creation of 300 MT of steel capacity in the country by 2030-31 as against existing capacity of 160 MT.
The estimated import of plant and equipment, for reaching 300 MT capacity, will be around Rs. 1,72,550 crores.
Further, it is estimated that at 300 MT capacity level, India will have to spend about Rs. 3,450 crores annually for import of proprietary and other spares.
According to the data released by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Indian metallurgical industries attracted Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) to the tune of US$ 17.10 billion in the period April 2000–March 2022.
100 per cent FDI through the automatic route is allowed in steel sector.
